Saturday, May 7 the Washington Huskies will host crews from the Czech Republic and Cornell University in the 19th Annual Windermere Cup Regatta on their famous Montlake Cut racecourse.
The Windermere Cup is the largest FREE spectator event in the nation, boasting crowds of several thousand people annually for a great day of racing and the opening day yacht parade. A great family event!
Race viewing is great anywhere along the Montlake Cut or the Montlake Bridge.
Unique to the 2005 races is the opening of the newly remodelled Conibear Shellhouse--the beautiful new facility on the University of Washington campus constructed to house the Husky Crew program, and provide Academic Support Services for the UW Student Athlete Community. The public is welcome to tour the new building all day on Opening Day.
The festivities will begin on Friday, May 6 at 9:30 PM with a Fireworks Skylight Celebration in collaboration with 103.7 FM the Mountain. Fireworks will be visible from anywhwere on Lake Washington's Union Bay, with an organized FREE viewing (paid parking) from the Men's Baseball field at the University of Washington.
