The Paul G. Allen Center

Dear CSE students, staff, and faculty:

We're absolutely thrilled to let you know that in Summer 2003 less than 18 months from now CSE will move into the Paul G. Allen Center for Computer Science & Engineering!

It was announced late today that Paul has provided a $14 million leadership gift to our campaign, which ensures that the building will be fully completed on schedule. It was also announced that the donor of the anonymous $6.5 million challenge match received last August was the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The Board of Regents has recognized Paul's generosity through the naming of the building, and Bill and Melinda's generosity through the naming of the Bill & Melinda Gates Commons on the top floor of the building.

In addition to these gifts, and Microsofts unprecedented $7.2 million commitment announced late last spring, we have thus far received more than $15 million in commitments from other friends and alumni in the regions tech and venture communities. Some of this is targeted toward the building, and some toward endowments for scholarships, fellowships, and professorships. Our overall campaign goals are $42 million for the building, $3 million for technology for the building, and $20 million for endowments.

We have many, many generous and committed people to thank for this our donors, the leaders of the Campaign for CSE (Tom Alberg and Jeremy Jaech), UWs leadership, and many more. But in truth, you should all pat yourselves on the back, because these donors are responding to what UW CSE has become, through your efforts - a place where terrific people work together to accomplish terrific things.
