I got an email from the English major listserv about an honor society called Mortar Board and decided that since I'm not in any honor societies already it would be a good idea to apply. In the confirmation e-mail I got, they mentioned this:

"If selected into Mortar Board Honor Society, we will use these schedules in the
tapping process which will start in approximately next week. Tapping is a long
standing tradition in which present Mortar Board members announce a student's
acceptance into our Honor Society during class."

It sounds kind of embarrassing. I don't want to be "tapped!"
Has it happened to anyone else? What class was it in? A big lecture or something small? Did they interrupt, or let the professor know in advance? Was it awkward?
