SPAN103

I was trying (rather vainly) to add a class to my schedule-- SPAN103. It told me I couldn't register on the web for it. Anyone know why? Also, the only place I actually even see the existance of it (sln 9193) is on the enrollment summaries. I haven't seen it on the time schedule or anything, and was again wondering why (not looking in the right place..?). Also wondering why it's three hours a day (I only wanted to see if I could add it, there's no way that would fit into my sched) five days a week, for only five credits, so if anyone knows that, please pipe up :)

Also (again rather uselessly), if there was anyone dropping the 9:30 section that happened to be on the UW lj list could you please email me with when you're going to do it... trismi@u blah blah. :p

Thanks!

French dep't/ TA's

~Hi everyone!.. well, I'm a french student, I haven't declared the major yet, although I might do that this fall in order to be able to register for the 300 level classes.. I just like the language.. shrug... BTW, anyone taking FR 203 this fall @ 1:30pm in Thom. 334?? Because I am, heh... anyway, my question,-- does anyone know if any of the current dept TAs will be leaving this fall, or, are any new TAs coming into the dept this yr.? I'm always just really curious about these things, Merci!.. I just figured I might as you all before asking my current instructor.. oh and.. Is anyone by chance already in the dept.. have any wisdom or stories they'd like to share with me ..?

(no subject)

Hi, i have a friend who, for reasons I don't know, has nowhere to live during school. is anyone still looking for a roommate? He's really nice. leave me a post or IM me at Khaki jan. or text me from my lj info, as it is getting rather urgent that we find him a place to live.

Computer Science Major

Hey guys,

I want to be a computer science major, and I was looking at UW (I live in Maryland). The thing is, though, that the major itself seems like its really hard to get into, with less than 40% (80 total) of the applicants being accepted.

Basically, I have a bajillion questions, and if anyone could fill me in, in any way, big or small, I'd really appreciate it.

What is the process of working towards this major? Is there anyone with direct experience with being accepted/rejected? What did you do right/wrong? If you were accepted, was it worth it? What happens if you are rejected? Do you have anything else to say about this system?

Also, for the computer science majors, how are the faculty? How is the program, are you able to take all the courses you want? The facilities look nice, but how are they "in real life"? Do you feel like when you graduate, you will be an awesome programmer and be a valuable employee?

Also one last general question. Comp Sci Majors are required to take 15 credits of foreign language. Is this 3 ...quarters? How in depth is this, e.g. am I expected to be somewhat able to speak it after this? (I ask because this may be a dealbreaker. Foreign languages = kryptonite)

Thanks guys!!
