"From Hiroshima to Hope" continues a worldwide tradition which Seattle adapted in1984. This year's event is the 61st commemoration of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and will be held at Greenlake on Sunday, August 6, 2006 from 6-9 pm.

We are hoping you will volunteer your time during: the afternoon setting up the performance stand and chair; late afternoon and evening folding cranes, distributing lanterns and program materials; and following the event gathering the lanterns from Greenlake and cleaning the site. Your assistance during one or all phases help assure our success!

Our ceremony is one of many held in Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and cities around the world; we will gather, rain or shine, on the evening of Sunday, August 6 th. The family-oriented program will be a remembrance for the victims of the atomic bombs that fell on Japan during WWII, other victims of war and a gathering to renew our commitment to work towards peace. The event will conclude at dusk with the Buddhist-inspired ceremony in which candlelit lanterns are set afloat to honor victims of war and other violence.

Please let me know if you will be able to assist us for the event on Sunday, August 6. We will need volunteers from approximately noon to midnight for everything from setting up to gathering the lanterns in the Greenlake following the event. Please contact fhthvolunteers@gmail.com, or Islanda Khau at 206-623-5124 x116, or comment.
