The program I work for, Jumpstart, is having a bookfair at the Barnes & Noble in U Village.
Jumpstart is a national non-profit organization that works with low-income preschoolers to help increase children's literacy and social skills. In Seattle, our program currently serves 14 preschool classrooms, in the International District, Columbia City, and Beacon Hill neighborhoods.
A lot of our classrooms don't have the resources to buy books for their classroom libraries, so Jumpstart is raising money to fill their libraries with age-appropriate children's books.
The best part: it doesn't cost you any money on top of what you're already purchasing at Barnes & Noble. Just say "Jumpstart" before you check out (or grab a voucher at our table on the 2nd floor and give it to the cashier as you check out), and 15% of your purchase will go towards our program to buy books. Everything in the store qualifies--even things from the cafe--except memberships and gift cards.
For families: We're also hosting 2 storytimes this weekend, one of Saturday and the other on Sunday. Both of the Storytimes will be at 1:30pm. Bring your preschoolers or Kindergartners to read stories, sing songs, and participate in fun craft activities.
